About Our Optometrist

William Southerland, O.D.
A Florida native, Dr. Southerland grew up in sunny Orlando. His mother and father were both business owners in the commercial printing industry. After working for the family business for several years, Dr. Southerland felt a calling to go back to school and pursue a medically oriented career.
He attended the University of Florida from 2000-2003 and is a proud Florida Gator alumnus. Dr. Southerland studied marine systems as an undergraduate, hoping to spend as much time on the water and in the field as possible. After graduating with a Bachelors of Science in Zoology, Dr. Southerland worked at an optometry office in a technical role while he applied to professional schools.
He attended the Pennsylvania College of Optometry from 2005-2009, and there he served as his class president for all four years of training. He trained under some of the brightest in the field, like Dr. Andrew Gurwood, Dr. Richard Bennett, and Dr Kelly Malloy.
Following his graduation, Dr. Southerland moved to Charleston, SC, and worked with Dr. Robert Lopanik. Dr. Lopanik trained Dr. Southerland in the art of contact lens fitting. It is an art that Dr. Southerland still very much enjoys and in which he specializes.
After coming to Greenville in 2010, Dr. Southerland worked up to starting his own practice, which eventually became Total Vision Services as it is known today.
Dr. Southerland loves his family and his church. His favorite way to spend a day is fishing for redfish in the coastal marshes with his wife and daughters or deer hunting with his brothers and father.
