LASIK Consults
Did you know that there is a way to eliminate your dependence on glasses and contact lenses almost completely? Laser vision correction has been FDA approved for more than 25 years. Dr. Southerland has spent the last several years in close interaction with the area’s most accomplished LASIK centers, and he is always excited to discuss LASIK as an option for your vision care needs.
LASIK has become such a common part of our culture that it hardly seems like surgery, but nothing could be further from the truth. LASIK is surgery. It requires careful measurement and evaluation of each patient to determine not just candidacy, but the parameters of the treatment itself.
We take each individual procedure and patient as seriously as if it were our own personal procedure. We feel like that level of care and attention is precisely the level of care that is required to have successful outcomes every time. We want every outcome to leave patients with crisp, clear distance vision that lasts a lifetime!
- If you have been thinking about laser vision correction for a while but do not know where to start, we would love to discuss options with you.
- If glasses and contact lenses for distant vision are causing too much trouble for you, laser vision correction may be your solution.
- If you have chronic contact lens complications, a potentially sight-threatening complication may be on the horizon. Laser vision correction aims to eliminate your dependence on contact lenses entirely and, in the process, eliminate the risk associated with contact lens misuse or hypersensitivity.
Yes and no. LASIK is surgery and therefore has inherent risks associated with it, especially in the immediate post-operative period. LASIK is performed by a highly skilled surgeon, in a highly specialized environment, with highly sophisticated instrumentation. Our main concern is safety for every patient. We have well-tested and proven safety protocols in place to significantly reduce the risks.
If all of the safety protocols are followed, LASIK is a perfectly safe and effective procedure. Dr. Southerland has taken part in over 8,000 procedures, and thanks to these excellent protocols, he has not seen a complication that prevented a patient from having a safe and successful outcome.
